Thinking that creativity is a distraction is dead wrong; just saying!

Digital planning is the act of planning your schedule, managing your to- do’s and personal project using your phone or your tablet.
It seems simple saying it like that, but I can tell you it is way more fulfilling than meet the eyes.
Yep, digital planning is not only a cute remedy to boredom, not only a way to get a bit of quiet because we are everyone else’s remedy to their crazy schedules.
Digital planning is a perfect add-on for visual thinkers and creatives alike

How can we make use of our creativity in more productive ways?

Creativity is the catalyst for new ideas.

As a child, we used to see the world with a new set of eyes every time, and it expanded our universe. Playing and thinking without the constraints of our daily responsibilities can assist us in reaching that creative state to better our idea development skills.

If you live an inspired life, your horizon expands, and everything becomes possible again, ageing becomes an afterthought. Thinking young an acting young will help you better engage with your environment and stop limiting yourself.

What does that have to do with adding stickers to a page you ask?

The act of thinking creatively and structuring your creations is the first step to becoming an innovator, coming up with new ideas!
You do not have to act on those ideas but the change that occurs in the way you think is what makes you love the process so much.

Think about it, how do you feel after creating something….. anything? You feel fulfilled, and it gives meaning to the time you just spent being proactive.

The rest of the world might not get it, but as a creative person, your need for self-expression sometimes surpasses your essential needs for a moment. Have you ever forgotten to eat or waste precious hours of sleep trying to come up with the perfect design of a piece of art?

We as creatives have all been there, so don’t blame yourself for your need to innovate and create. It is natural; it just has to be adequately managed.

Key Takeaway

You creativity can fuel your productivity if you use it as a catalyst for new ideas and innovation.Use the gift you have at your disposal and do not consider it as a waste of time ! You are a different animal all together.

The need for a productivity system that works for you.

If you are looking to be really practical here check out "5 tips to save more time" to help you make use  of your time more efficiently. When it comes to productivity for creative individuals, the main question is:

  • How to create an efficient and clear workflow for a better outcome without sacrificing my need for beautiful design?
  • What about using that creative flow and put it to use in the professional or personal environment?

It’s a tricky question because It depends on your requirements as an individual. Here is a list of questions you can ask yourself to help you find your unique path:

  • What are my goals for this project?
  • What are the deliverables?
  • Who should oversee or approve those deliverables?
  • Can I afford to innovate in the way I approach things in this case?
  • What are the milestones and deadlines?
  • What should be my priorities to help me finish this project on time?
  • How can I utilise my creativity in this project?
  • What is my creativity trigger? (What put you in a creative state? Planning? Cooking? Gardening?)
  • How can I be daring on this one and trigger my creative state?

The approach to a creative planning workflow will always be a personal one but knowing what your creative attitude is and how to use it in your daily life can change the way you come up with solutions. It can help you be innovative more often than not while staying focused on a positive outcome.

Digital planning is a way to connect with that frame of mind. Each of us is creatives in our own way and our field; however, the discipline of creating ornate structured layouts is better suited for visual thinkers.

George Washington Carver

"When you can do a common thing in an uncommon way; you will command the attention of the world. "

Here are a few examples of what you can create using the Progipad stickers and tools.

Track and illustrate important days or appointments like your doctor's appointments.

As you can see in the example above the act of thinking and acting on a thought makes it concrete and actionable. You can now visualise your day with more clarity and your notes are beautifully separated in blocks or information.

Plan your week too!  Make sure to includes timely things like bills and appointments and use stickers  to make the process more enjoyable! of course you do not have to make it as colourful but it should reflect your personality and your mood for sure!

As you can see what can trigger your creativity can be as simple as looking at your weekly layouts and get inspired to engage in the act of planning.

As artist or creatives (you do not need to know how to draw to be creative it is a state of mind!) you might have ideas, thoughts and to-do's scattered everywhere, so planning is not always a natural process.

Try to add colour pointers and attention cues to your layouts using images, stickers or colours and experience a more innovative planning experience with real attention on what it is you are planning to add to your schedule.

Key Takeaway

Find a unique creative productivity path , we call it "your unique creative attitude" here at Progipad.

There is no perfect workflow, allow things to change evolve and develop in  unique ways. Digital planning gives you all the flexibility in the world and will help you clarifying your often messy creative thoughts!

Try to add colours and stickers to draw attention on what really matters!

The literal sense of “ornate structured layouts.”

Think about what it means in simple terms. The act of creating a positive and engaging framework for our schedules gives a structure to our creativity,  consequently our creative concept gives ways for new ideas generation structuring out our to-do’s in blocks of reference.

Stop thinking outside the box, get rid of the box all together!  The greatest thinkers and game changers were not your regular Joe and people often call them crazy!

The blocks that unblock….

If you need to see things to better understand them (block of text or visual reference like illustrations), then you are a visual thinker.

It allows your mind to process information in a non-linear way. When we use digital planning, we are utilising this very concept to the fullest. It is no Joke, but it is fun!

If you are looking at it objectively, when creating blocks of ornate content, we are helping our brain differentiates between a confusing amount of information in one page.
It is not only helpful but also necessary for some of us… like myself who suffer from dyslexia.

Remember, if you are less creative with stickers, it does not mean that you aren’t a visual thinker! Using a few sticker placements in your page layout suffice to express your current mood or convey an idea with ease.

Key Takeaway

Organise your content and tasks in blocks. It will clarify your note taking process and allow room for organised chaos.

No need to be an expert designer to play!

Remember the time when we used to scribble on a piece of paper at age five and make sense of it? Why do we have to stress out about the beauty of our layout? When what matters is, what makes sense to us?

Digital planning is a very personal approach to productivity and will always reflect our own unique creative attitude, so don’t worry about it and just scribble on your piece of paper as much as you like.

Now It's Your Turn

By now, I'm guessing your head is filled with ideas on how to use your own creativity to its full advantage or to at least think about the topic in your own time.

Here are a few items that could help you along the way

  • Think about how you solve problems. Do you trigger your creative mechanism, or do you resort to traditional ways of doing things?
  • Do you use your digital notebook to write all your ideas down? Even the craziest ones?
  • Do you structure your layout in ways that allow not only for a pleasing aesthetic but also a complete task management system that works for you?
